New Project: Ji Chang Wook in The Manipulated

After dazzling Paris Fashion Week, Ji Chang Wook is preparing to return to the small screen through Disney+’s new drama The Manipulated. This crime revenge series is written by Oh Sang Ho and directed by Park Shin Woo together with Kim Chang Ju. Scheduled to premiere on November 5, 2025, it tells the story of Tae Joong, an ordinary man whose life is destroyed after being framed for a heinous crime and thrown into prison. Upon learning that it was all part of a mastermind’s plan, he emerges seeking bloody revenge.

Ji Chang Wook plays Tae Joong, starring alongside Doh Kyung Soo as Yo Han, Lee Kwang Soo as Baek Do Kyung, and Jo Yoon Su as No Eun Bi. With powerhouse names like Disney+, CJ ENM, and Studio Dragon backing the production, The Manipulated is already considered one of the most anticipated K dramas of the year. The story evokes memories of Ji Chang Wook’s action packed film Fabricated City (2017), also penned by Oh Sang Ho, but this time with an even darker and more emotional twist.

The official trailer shows Tae Joong’s peaceful life torn apart by false accusations and betrayal, followed by an intense transformation driven by anger and revenge. Fans believe the series could showcase Ji Chang Wook’s most powerful performance yet.

Ji Chang Wook’s move to Spring Company in 2023 is believed to have given him more freedom in selecting projects. After proving his versatility with romantic roles in Welcome to Samdal Ri and gritty action in The Worst of Evil, he is now diving into a character that is morally complex and emotionally heavy. Starring alongside Doh Kyung Soo, known for portraying layered and intense characters, makes this collaboration even more exciting.

Outside his acting career, Ji Chang Wook continues to be socially active. In February 2023, he donated 100 million won to victims of the Turkey Syria earthquake, showing his compassion beyond the entertainment world. His Paris Fashion Week presence, international filming schedule, and humanitarian efforts further strengthen his image as a Korean star who not only shines on screen but also inspires through his personality and global reach.

The sound design in The Manipulated trailer is no joke. The silence before the chaos, then that intense score hits? No mames! It sets the perfect mood for a dark revenge story. Chef’s kiss :pinched_fingers:

Aside from the drama, his whole vibe at that event is giving major Bond villain energy! I can already hear the dramatic 007-style OST in my head. Someone get this man a theme song, ya! :fire:

That trailer for The Manipulated made me gasp out loud! My heart already breaks for Tae Joong. Another show that’s going to make me cry, I just know it. November can’t come soon enough! :sob:

Omg, you read my mind! :joy: Now I can’t unsee it. He just needs a mysterious cat in his lap and a dramatic orchestral swell. He’d be the most handsome Bond villain ever! Can you imagine the theme song?

You’ve described it perfectly! :+1:  That aura of elegant danger is exactly what makes a compelling antagonist. A 007-style theme with a dark, sleek instrumental would capture his character’s sophistication and hidden ruthlessness so well…

I felt the exact same way! The way the trailer cuts from his peaceful life to the sheer devastation in his eyes… it’s a masterclass in storytelling. I’m already preparing myself for an emotional journey. The pain feels so real and visceral.

I knew his move to Spring Company was a good idea. Look at him now, Tom Ford invitation and a lead in a big Disney+ drama. He’s choosing much more interesting projects now, not just the same old romance.

Even if he wore ragged clothes, his face would still look expensive. If I wore ragged clothes, I’d look like a real bum lol

It’s like he’s the sky and we’re the abyss, right? No wonder my fiancé is so crazy about JCW, I feel totally second place :smiling_face_with_tear:
